CANTERBURY MARKETS. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The potato market touched zero on Tuesday, business being done at as low as £4 5/ r.0.b., s.i., for coastal. To-day the figure Is £4 10/, so there has been a.slight improvement. Tne decline, of Auckland stocks has' been the main cause of the slight recovery, there being some purchasers for the Kurow at the improved figure. This vessel took up to 9000 sacks rrom Timaru and Lyttelton. The Walporl will sail ror the North to-morrow night" with rurther supplies. One result or these shipments is a reduction or the potatoes -In store at Southern ports, the glut of which has been the bugbear or the trade ror several months. Lyttelton stocks to-day were down to about 600 sacks compared with 21,000 a rortnirh ago, and the Timaru reduction has been on a similar ratio.

The Kawatlri sailed on Wednesday Tor Sydney with approximately 16,000 sacks rrom all ports. The Sydney quotation today was £11, but consigned potatoes are not making this ngure. A lew rarmers are coming , Torward and one or two are accepting 14 on trucks Tor Sydney packing. For coastal quotations have been as low as £3 6/ on trucks, but there is no record or any business at less, than £3 10/. There Is a fair disposal or seeds to rarmers. For good quality white clover 10d to 12d a Ib on trucks Is available, and ror cowgrass 8d to 10d. There was some export Inquiry, but not a great deal or seed Is up to the export standard. Ryegrass is quoted on trucks at 2/6 to 2/9 Tor Italian, and 3/ to 3/6 ror perennial. Good hf-avy cocksroot Is worth 7d to 7id, and ordinary od a u>. Oats are firm at recent quotations, 4/ and 4/3 respectively at 81-tf Tor Banda Cartons.- Local A's arc worth more.
