MOTOR RACING.
ON MURIWAI BEACH,
ARRANGEMENT OF PROGRAMME
The Sports Committee of the Auckland Automobile Association met last evening, when arrangements were made for the holding of the annual motor race meeting on Muriwai Beach. Mr. F. G. Farrell presided.
The secretary, Mr. R. E. Champtaloup, reported that the tide should be suitable for the holding of the 1927 races on Saturday. March 6.
A letter was received from a prominent New South Wales racing motorist, Mr. Phil. Harbutt, of Sydney, asking for information concerning the events to be decided. Mr. Harbutt said that it was proposed to bring a team of racing cars to Auckland for the beach races. °
The chairman suggested that more turns should be included in the longer races in order to make the racing more spectacular for the public. He also suggested that, as the touring car race had lacked interest in previous years, this race should be replaced with an event for cars with an engine capacity of 1100 cubic centimetres. Both suggestions were adopted, and the following programme of events was approved:—Xew Zealand Motor Cup, 50 miles, nine turns; New Zealand Light Car Cup, 50 miles, nine turns; New Zealand championship for 1100 c.c. cars, 20 miles, nine turns; Ladies' Race, two miles straight; All Comers' Handicap, 12 miles, five turns; Open Handicap, 12 miles, five turns; Open Sprint, 1J miles, straight.
