MOUNT EDEN.

The Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor [Mr. E. H. Potter) presiding.

Tennis Courts.—The Parks Committep reported that the Auckland Grammar School Tennis Clab had offered a rental for the use of 12 courts on Xichouson Park. It had been found impossible to have six courts ready by November next, but the 12 courts would be ready for next year. Park Extension. —A letter was received from the Auckland Education Board granting the council the use at a peppercorn rental of a triangular strip of land with a frontage to Epsom Avenue, in connectiou with the extension of Nicholson Park. Motor Shed By-laws.—A request was received from a resident that the by-law should be altered to allow motor sh«ds of iron and asbestos to be erected on the boundary lines of property. It was decided to reply that the present by-law could not be altered. NEW ITMN. A meeting of the New Lj-nn Town Board was held last evening. There were present • Messre. C. F. Gardner (chairman). II S Wilding. A. Shaw, E. Stacey, P. Roberts, and I. Hughes. Portage Road Culvert.—The board agreed to contribute one-third of the cost of repairing flood damage. Plunket Nursinjr Society.—This society •was granted permission to hold a street stall during September. Craigbank Avenue. —Mr. M. Kirkpatrick complained of the condition of the footpath on this road, the footpath having been carried away by storm water.—The Works Committee was instructed to report.

Manuka Ptreet. — Kelston ratepayers residing in the Waitemata area asked the board to repair a portion of this road that junctions with the Waitemata boundary.— The foreman was instructed to report as to cost.

Triangle Reserve.—The board's officer in charge of the reserves of the district reported that the Triangle Reserve had been planted with flowering elms and cherries, and a puriri tree, the gift of Mr. Robt. Wright. Mrs. Gllliam had donated a number of shrubs.—The board , passed a vote of thanks to the donors.

New Roads.—The Works Committee reported on making an inspection of the new roade constructed on Mr. Todd"s property. They were against the roads being taken over in their present condition. There was not sufficient camber in the metal portions, and no trace of fine scoria blinding. Storm water drainage was not sufficiently provided for.

Town Board Election.—The town clerk reported that the forthcoming election would be held" on September 15, and that nominations would close on September 7.

Buildings.—The inspector reported that seven permits bad been-issued since the last meeting.

New Assessment. — The town clerk reported that the new assessment placed on the land in the district advanced the valuation by approximately £100,000. The board rates on the unimproved value.

Special Meeting.—The board decided to hold a. special meeting on Tuesday next, when tenders will be considered in connection with the work that is to he carried out under the unemployment loan.

PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD. The Papakura Town Board tnet lasi evening, the Rev. W. C. Wood taking the ohair. Other members of the Tioard present were: Messrs. Milne. McEntee, McCall, Weir. Tuely. Young's Beach Road. —After considering complaints by Messrs. Muir and Kernot. residents of Youn-g's Beach Road, the board decided to make a path from the existing footpath, the cost not to exceed £7 10/. Main Highway Subsidy.—The Public Works Department intimated that they would grant a subsidy of £1 for £1 for constructing the main highway from Papakura on to W'alroa Road. Cosgrare Road.—Mr. MeLennan. M.1 , ., wrote promising prompt attention re the Cosgrave Road petition. Street Lighting.—The board received a reply from the Aucktend Electrical Power Board re 'street lighting, stating that the board was orcanising a scheme to embrace an establishment of offices, which would give an efficient service in Papakura.

Lovegrove and Rice, solicitors. Papakura, wrote re catchment area. They had been informed by Mr. Prangley. surveyor, that "there were still a few minor requisitions on the plan, and that he was going on to the ground on Monday or Tuesday next to complete the matter.

Reservoir Tank.—The chairman gave a n account of the board's committee waiting on Mr. Sever (owner of land) re the construction of the reservoir tank. They had looked over the site. It was pointed out that only half an acre of land would r>e needed. Mr. Sever asked for a plan of toe reservoir and its right-away, and nothing farther ■would be done until this was presented to Mr. Sever. The chairman remarked that the spot was ideal for the purpose.

Great South Road.—The question of repairing the Great South Road in the Papakura Town was brought up. and the board decided to repair the toTn area.

East Street.—Tie foreman was Instructed to report on East Street, and s»e if the water could be removed after the storms by means of drainage.
