FIRE NO 'WORSE THAN PAN. A CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. LONDON, August 22. In December last, Lady Actor challenged any British Socialist doing lip-eervice to the Soviet regime to put his faith to the proof by going to live in Russia, offering to pay the fares of any who accepted. Mr. James Morton, aged 48, an iron moulder, of Liverpool, has accepted the offer, and eails for Leningrad at the week-end with his wife and tv.o children. Mr. Morton says: "Things may be a bit thin over there, but they cannot be leaner than they are here. Though a skilled man, I only draw £3 2/6 a week, and I think myself lucky compared with others. Skilled men in the engineering trade have been unemployed or on halftime since 1921. As secretary of the Liverpool Hands Off Russia Committee. I know something of the conditions of the workers. A State in a stage of transition cannot be a land of milk and honey." and N.Z.)
