CANTERBURY TEAM'S TOUR

DISSENSION OVER MANAGER.

THREAT BY PRESIDENT

(3y Telegraph.—Special to "Star.'T CHRISTCHURCH, this day.

How Dr. Thaeker, president of the Canter bury Football league, threatened not to sign a cheque to enable the Canterbury team to visit Auckland, and how he and others threatened to dissociate themselves from the League. was revealed at a special general meeting of delegates on Saturday night. The chairman (Mr. Winter t'ole) moved that the proceedings be taken in comm'ttoe. Mr. C. Allen: Give us an idea what tli? hus nens is first. Mr. C'cie: It is very important and very .'erioiis. and we had quite sufficient oi r'.wspaper advertisemsnt a few rnnr.tl-s If this fort*i into the newspapers, it will put us a little bit lower in the estimation of the foothill public. Mr. W. Hraley: If we po into commit 'W, arc t'.:e delegates bound to keep this confidential* On previous occasions, certain delegates have made ii their bus'ness, if not to use the telephone immediately after the meeting, to spread the news by other means. Mr. Ccl": Yes. "unfortunately that is so. You will find that with some people. It is not right.

A short and stormy discussion ensued as to the eligibility of certain people prcient to vote, and the motion to go into committee was then declared los'bv twelve votes to eleven.

Thr chairman: Well, gentlemen, the reason for calling this special general meeting was on account of a letter reeved from the Monica Park Board of Control, announcing that iir. S. M. Richardson had been appointed finance manager to go with the team to Auckland.

The executive received that letter at its last meeting and, after discussing the matter, it was decided that it was not necessary to sand a finance manager to Auckland on account of the expense. There was a meeting of the board on the following night, and they said they were going to send Mr. Richardson. As a matter of fact, Dr. Thaeker, the president, said that he would not sign the cheque to send the team north unless Mr. Richardson went and, what was more, he said that he would pull out of the centre. This statement was followed by one or two more by others, who stated that they would withdraw from the sport unless Mr. Richardson were sent north. I think Dr. Thaeker wa= in earnest when he made the* statement he did, and so we decided to call a special Meeting to discuss the situation.

Mr. McKeon: Before you go tny fu; ther, what was the result of that divi sion ':

Mr. Cole: Eleven for the motion and twelve against it.

Then it transpired that one member present was not entitled to vote.

Mr. Cole: The voting ia the first place. then, was illegal on account of one person voting when he was not entitled to vote. The voting really, then, was eleven for the motion and eleven ntr.iinst. 1 give my casting vote in favour of the motion. Further proceedings were then taken in committee. KINGSLAJTD V.
