COX'S CREEK.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—May I be allowed to reply briefly to Mr. Simpson on the above subject. I a?ree that the matter should be viewed from all sides (including that of boat owners). My .suggestion was that part of the creek should be reserved for boats in winter, the mangrove swamps to be tilled in to provide a sports ground. I certainly consider it better to retain a basin already existing than to trust to a ■mv problematical harbour in the jre. Boats are having to leave other Jiauling-up grounds, and many must (iime here. Inside the bridge boats are safe, outside they are not, as some owners (including Mr. J. Donald) found to their cost in the recent severe storm. With regard to a boat harbour, the indications on all sides point to sandstone rock at no great depth, certainly not deep enough to retain the tide all the time. The cost would be prohibitive, and such a proposal would be turned down.—l am, etc., A. FRANCIS.
