"IT IS RIDICULOUS."

s - REBUKE BY HIS HONOR. SUPREME COURT INCIDENT. "It is ridiculous," said Mr. Justice Herdman at the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon when he learned that no case had been set down to follow the trial that was in progress. "We are halfway through this case already," said His Honor, "and we will never get through the list if the Crown does not have its cases ready." The Crown Prosecutor (Mr. S. L. Paterson): It is very difficult the first day, sir. His Honor: They do it everywhere else. Mr. Paterson: Nowhere else have they as many cases as here. It is difficult to arrange it with two Courts. His Honor: Very well, it might be better to revert to the old system of one Judge taking the lot. The grand jury must have brought back a number of bills. Mr. Paterson: It is in Mr. Meredith's hands, sir. •His Honor: I expected to go on with another case to-day. Mr. Paterson: I will see what can be done. The upshot was that another trial was commenced late in the afternoon, and it was in progress when the Court was adjourned for the day.
