WAIKINO MAX'S DEATH.
AX OPEN VERDICT.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. The adjourned inquest touching the death of Edward Herbert Alfred Scholz (50), whose dead body was found in the Waitekauri Stream on June 29, was resumed at the Courthouse before the coroner (Mr. W. M. Wallnutt). Constable Rimmer appeared for the police. Scholz, who was a blacksmith employed at Waikino by tlie Waihi Gold Mining Company, left his lodgings on May 22 and was not again seen alive. The evidence showed that the deceased was of a retiring and peculiar disposition, having no companions. His room mate, Mr. George J. McKenzie, noticed him burning some old correspondence and photograph < a few days before he disappeared. Hr> had not given anyone the impression that he intended doinw away with himself, nor did he leave any statement behind. The coroner returned a verdict that death resulted from drowning, there being no evidence to show how deceased sot into the water.
