RACE GANG'S WAY.
BOOKMAKEHS TERRORISED,
LOKDOX, June 30. Questions alleging that as the head of the Sabini race gang he made £20.000 to £30.000 a year were put to Charlc3 Darby Sabini during his examination ia the Bankruptcy Court. His liabilities total £SlO, and his assets are stated as nil. He attributed his bankruptcy to" an unsuccessful libel action, in which he attempted to recover damages when a newspaper alleged that he had robbed bookmakers at the point of a revolver. Counsel suggested that Sabini was the king of the Sabini gang, which made fortunes out of bookmakers by selling them pitches at from £5 to £20 a day, and then sending agents to overturn their stands unless they bought his race cards at an extortionate fee. Sabini smiled. Counsel: You may smile on the other side of your face. Do you deny making £20.000 to £30.000 a year out of the gang? Sabini: I never knew the janj existed. The examination was concluded.
