CHAND SCORES EIGHT GOALS.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)' WHANGAEEI, Thursday. The Indian Army hockey team to-day; defeated the North Auckland representatives by 9 goals to 1. There was an attendance of over 3000, and the ground was in perfect condition. At half-time the Indians led by 4 goals to 0. The initial goal was scored by Dhian. Chand in the first few minutes. After this Norths Auckland showed to better advantage, but weak work in the circle lost many opportunities. Chand added three more goals to the Indians' tallybefore half-time. Immediately the game was resumed Chand added his fifth goal. Hannam. then dribbled through and shot the first goal for North Auckland. Play now became more even. The North Auckland defence was sound and a quarter of an hour elapsed before the next score, which was made by Bellchamber. Chand scored his sixth goal very soon afterwards. His next goal was the best of the afternoon. He was playing an inspired game and just before time shot his eighth goal. Play throughout was of a very fast nature. Dhian Chand was superb in the circle, but he seldom had chances in close play. The North Auckland backs resorted to hard hitting and more than, held their own in the second half. Wyatt (goalie) and Bondard (half) were prominent in the backs and Soertz played a fine forward game.
