THE FINAL TRIALS.
PLAYERS' LAST OPPORTUNITY.
TO GET IN TEAM FOR ENGLAND.
The finals of the series of local matches which were arranged by the New Zealand Rugby League will be staged to-morrow at Carlaw Park, and will present to players their last opportunity of earning a place in the fortunate twenty-six. Two matches have been arranged, the first between the Probables and Possibles, and the second between A and B teams. The double-header bill of fare will appeal to Leagueites, and as much will depend upon the form of to-morrow it goes without saying that the whole of the fifty-two players taking part in the games will be, out-and-out triers. It is always hard to find a place in big football, but it is easy to lose that place, and many a man has settled his chances of a trip by one bad game. The all powerful man, so far as the backs are concerned, is the half-back, and unless he does the right thing, and sends the ball out to his associates, they have little chance to show their ability in attack.
All the best players will be fielded tomorrow, and the appearance of List (Kingsland) in the B team will please hundreds of followers of the game, who hold he is as good a threequarter as can be found in Auckland. It will be interesting to see how he shapes tomorrow. Given fine weather another big crowd may be expected. The A and B game will commence at 1.15 p.m., and will be followed by the Probables v. Possibles at 2.45 p.m. The teams are as under:— PROBABLES. Full-back.—Dufty (Auckland). Three-quarters.—Sanders (Canterbury), Desmond (Wellington), Littlewood (AuckI a. n cl). Poison is not available for the B team on account of sickness, and his place will be taken by Ghent.
