NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP.

MARTON, Thursday. The North Island sparrow and live r.i<*eou championship shooting contests opened here to-day, lhe most prominent gunmen will be present on Friday. The sparrow shooting events wore held to-day lv fine weather, the visibility being good and tbere being no wind. The championship was won by H. Best (Palmerston North) with a score of 20. He takes the gold medal and I'll 2/(5. H. Nitz (Masterton) and V. Smith (Auckland), each 10, take £7 0/9 each. Other scores were: D. Mcbaughlin (ilasterton) 15, 11. Clinch (Waihi) 15, W. Symonds (Whakatane) 14, A. Dobson (Auckland) 12. Fourteen others competed. Following the sparrow championship a £30 handicap shoot was held. A. Dobson (Auckland), with 10. takes £20. The following tak« £2 10/ each: H. Clinch (Waihi), C. Brown (Palmorston North), 11. Nitz Olaeterton), E. King (Wjilhi), each 9. A Kweepstake was won by H. Nuttall (Marton), aftnr a shoot-off with Dobson, Clinch anfl Kins.
