BUS REGULATIONS.
MINISTER DEFENDS POLICY.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. In reply to representations re motor buses, a letter from the Hon. K. S. Williams (Minister of Public Works) was laid before tlie Chamber of Commerce, in which he pointed out that under the regulations us amended there will be a right of appeal against the extra 2,1 charge, and also if the corporations fixed lower charges on their buses than private one. As to insurance, the Minister quoted instances in Christcliurch and Wellington where sums up to £21,000 had been paid for tramway accidents, and therefore the amount fixed for buses was, he said, not unreasonable, especially as they were more liable to accident than trams. In other places injuiries showed that buses were not allowed to compete with trams, and yet the number of the former had increased.
The chamber'decided to take no further action in the matter.
