COX'S CREEK CAUSEWAY.
WORK HEARING COMPLETION. APPROACHES NOW BEING FORMED. Cox's Creek, is the scene of engineering changes that will soon give greatly unproved traffic facilities to the western suburbs beyond Heme Bay. The causeway over tb.Q water has been widened to 40 feet, and the concrete bridge has also been widened, leaving only the formation of the approaches to complete the work. A timber bridge is to be built over a small" arm of the creek, and this will give access to Eegina Street and neighbouring streets direct from Jervois Road. It is also proposed to erect a low parapet wall in concrete from Grey Lynn shore to the bridge by the expenditure of £275. The new West End Road has a tarred footpath on both sides, and its present broad width is in marked contrast to the narrow road that formerly Crossed Cos's Creek estuary. The widening has taken place on the seaward side of the old road. Conveniences for the boating public in the western part of Auckland have been included as a part of the improvement scheme, and it is expected that the boat anchorage just beyond the new causeway will become inoreasingly popular. A parapet that will prevent spray from breaking over the outer footpath in rough weather is being constructed in substantial concrete work. The total cost of the new bridges, and the widening of the causeway is about £10.600.
