PAWNED HIS WATCH.
TICKET GIVEN TO MATE. FALSE DECLARATION MADE. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. Having pledged a w-atch and chain, and given the ticket to another man as security for cash, John Foster, not being able to find the other man, came to the foolish conclusion that he could make out a declaration that the ticket was lost, so as to regain the watch. He pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court. Mr. Justice MacGregor said there was no doubt prisoner set out to defraud the other man. His Honor said the prisoner was a mature man, who set out to defraud his mate in a mean way. He did not think it a case for probation or a fine, and a sentence of one month's imprisonment, with hard labour, was imposed.
