SHOOTING HEN PHEASANTS.
SUBSTANTIAL FINES. CASES AT WHANGAREI. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., R. G. Menzies and G. Wilding were proceeded against by the Whangarei Acclimatisation Society (Mr. Briggs) for shooting and being in possession of three hen pheasants. When the defendants' car was searched by the ranger, two of the birds had been plucked. Each, defendant was fined £15 and costs. Clarence Temperley and Claude Gibbs pleaded guilty to shooting two hen pheasants. These were found in "their game bag when defendants were stopped by the ranger. Each was fined £10 and costs.
