WANTED IN DEVONPORT.
BETTER POSTAL FACILITIES. A deputation representing varying interests in the borough of Devonport, consisting of Messrs. Minchin, Heldt, King. Thomas and Howitt, waited on the Postmaster, Mr. Scully, yesterday, and placerL- before liim their views with regard to improving post office facilities in Devonport. It was stated that at Stanley Bay and North Devonport there was no way of sending a telegram in these thickly populated areas unless by coming to the main office in Marine Square. Residents also had to go to the main office for their parcels. It was urged that if sub-offices were established at the points mentioned there would be an increase of business, which would aid the Department, and it would be a great convenience to the people. It was also shown that in some parts of Devonport there was only one delivery of mail matter per day, which was a retrograde step seeing the progress the district was making. In the areas where sub-offices were required reliable i firms had agreed to give space for postal work if the Department would meet them in a reasonable way, the equipment of the offices being considered a small matter. Mr. Scully took a | note of the representations of the deputation, and promised to make a full i report of the position to his superior i officers.
