HOCKEY TOURNEY
COUNTRY WEEK COMMENCED. WHITE HORSE CUP MATCHES. The annual country week hockey tournament for the White Horse Cup was commenced yesterday afternoon at the Remuera grounds. There are this year six teams competing. After the rain which fell in the course of the week-end the grounds were slightly heavy, still conditions were generally good and bright play resulted. The closest 'contest was that between Waipa, the holders of the cup, and Franklin, the game ending in a draw. The results of yesterday's play were as follows: — Waipa 2 (Andrews 1. C. Law 1), drew with Franklin 2 (Conroy 1. Maxwell 1). Piako 2 (Eastwood 1, Parkin 1), defeated Tauranga 0. Rodney 4 (Matthews 1. Goertz 1, Grimmer 1. Hood 1), defeated Whangarei 1 (T. Morgan).
LADIES' TOURNAMENT.
PROVINCIAL CUP CONTESTS. The annual ladies' hockey competition for the Auckland Provincial Cup was also commenced at Rqnuera yesterday. There are eleven teams competing, six in the A section and five in the B section. Yesterday's play resulted as follows: A Section.- —Tauranga 3 (Miss K. Kennedy 2. Miss J. Randalo 1). defeated Auckland <SV 2 (Miss Dodds 2) : Waikato 7 (Miss Newell 2, Miss Conn 2, Miss Chisney 2. Miss Young 1). defeated Whangarei i (Miss G. Lowe) ; Thames 7 (Miss J. Willetts 3, Miss .lordan 2, Miss Shand 1. Miss Birney 1), defeated Franklin B 1 (Miss C. Preece). B Section.—Waipa 6 (Miss White 5, Miss Vincent 1), defeated Auckland B 3 (Miss Walker 2. Miss Coppersmith 1) ; Piako 3 (Miss Wylie 2. Miss Chinnery 1), defeated Franklin A 2 (Miss Masters 1, Miss Meiklejohn 1) ; Rotorua, a bye.
