ALL FOR A GIRL.

HOUSEBREAKING AND THEFT. A MAE* INFATUATION. YOUNG CLERK'S DOWNFALL. (By Telegraph.—Special to Star.'") WELLINGTON, this day. When Ronald Cazelet Bloxham appeared before Judge McGregor in the Supreme Court for sentence, having pleaded guilty to a charge of housebreaking and theft of jewellery. Mr. Putnam (for prisoner) said the accused had already been dealt with by a magistrate for another offence committed on the same day. Counsel submitted that the total commitments should not exceed twelve months. Bloxham had entered a house and had taken some £100 worth of jewellery. Prisoner was 21 years old. of excellent parentage, and had been a most satisfactory clerk in an insurance office, but twelve months ago he had begun to lapse, as the result of an attachment to a girl, which grew to wild infatuation. In twelve months he had spent the whole of his assets, some £200, in that direction. Their association was of quite a decent nature. The articles had not been taken for himself. His Honor said the first commitment dealt with only one crime; the present crime was not considered in the sentence, and evidently, in the light of the nature of the second crime, it was not sufficient. If twelve months commitment would be reformative, a longer period would be more so. Here prisoner collapsed, and had to be taken out of the Court. After his recall the prosecutor (Mr. Macassey) said the young lady mentioned was most respectable, and denied taking more than some £14 from prisoner. He thought it was a case for further reformative detention. Prisoner was ordered to be detained in Waikeria Borstal Institute for a period not exceeding 36 months, to commence and run concurrent to his present sentence.
