From inquiries made it would appear that the unemployment problem as regards girls in Hamilton i> much more acute than that affecting men. Parents are experiencing difficulty in placing their girls in suitable employment in spite of strenuous efforts to find them work. l-.ven though the class of applicants is good and they have the necessary qualifications, they are often disappointed IB trying to obtain positions and their names are usually relegated to the waiting list. Girls" are naturally anxious to assist parents on whom they may he to a large extent dependent, while the modern spirit of independence urge 3 them to go to work, even where this 13 not absolutely necessary. The millinery and dressmaking trades yearly absorb a large number of girls, but these trades cannot take all desirous of finding work of that nature. Others enter domestic employment, but the majority prefer the duties of office clerks aud shop assistants.
