BREEZE AT PAPAKURA. MEMBER WITHDRAWS OFFENSIVE WORD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PAPAKURA,-this day. A heated discussion took place at last night's meeting of the Papakura Town Board regarding the matter of disposing of the collection of storm water in Victoria Street. Mr. D.. Weir, as a member of the Works Committee,':objected 1 to the fact that the chairman had not supported the decision of the committee. His motion that the Rev. Wood leave the chair was seconded by Mr. McEntee. The chairman stated that he took, exception to the action of the Works Committee in informing the ratepayers of what would be done by the board. Mr. Milne, having left the meeting, earlier in. the* evening,' and the voting being equally divided-, the-chairman gave his casting vote against the motion, which was lost. The chairman said that Mr. Weir had" attempted to make him'vacate the chair by a rather unfair method, a member having been called away from the meeting. Mr. Weir: You nearly lost it. The chairman further objected to what he stated was Mr. McEntee's frequent habit of whispering to his neighbour suggesting that the business in hand be referred to the Works Committee. Mr. McEntee: I take exception, to that, it is a deliberate lie. The chairman: ' You must withdraw that remark or leave your, chair. Mr. McEntee subsequently withdrew the remark. A heated discussion followed. The chairman stated that he thought the Works Committee had done its work well in all except the present instance. Finally, a motion was carried that the engineer (Mr. Greville Walker) be asked to give an estimate of the cost of preparing an estimate of the outlay involved in the proposed work, this to be referred to the Finance Committee.
