COMMONWEALTH AFFAIRS.

END OF THE STRIKE. GENERAL RESUMPTION. RELIEF PROBLEM SOLVED. fßy Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this clay. Everything is now in order for the resumption of work by the miners tomorrow. A thousand enginedrivers and firemen, who had been on strike, returned to work on Friday and Saturday to prepare the mines for reopening. Efforts are being made to settle several sectional disputes, which v-.ere in existence before the general strike began. At Coalcliff the trouble over wage?, which has been in existence since the beginning of the year, has been settled. A hitch has occurred in the South Maitland coalfield over conditions of work. With the mines resuming the question of relief orders for unemployed will cease to be the big matter it is at present with the Police Department. During" the past few weeks the average number of orders issued per week has been four hundred, the value of each ranging from 6/6 to 11/6. It is expected that claims for relief will continue to be made until the first pay is distributed. The shipping companies are making preparations to resume their time-tables, which have been disorganised by the shortage of coal. — (A. arid X.Z.)
