A DEPLORABLE RECORD.

SIX MONTHS FOR THEFT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, this day. John Gibb Hastings, alias Grant, who was remanded on Saturday, was again before the court this morning, before justices, charged with the theft of an overcoat. The police stated that accused arrived from Thames on Friday, and took the coat from the Te Awamntu Hotel during the dinner hour. Other happenings occurred the same night, but so far there was nothing connecting Hastings with these incidents. Accused has had 12 convictions during the last 11 years. The judge said that Hastings had a deplorable record, and sentenced him to six months' imprisonment.
