THE HOCKEY TROUBLE

VICE-PRESIDENTS RESIGN. "EXECUTIVE UNREASONABLE." Following on the resignation of the Auckland Hockey Association's selector (Mr. L. C. Kent) at the request of the executive, which took exception to a statement by the selector that he was refused an adequate trial match, three of the vice-presidents who had not favoured the executive's drastic action, Messrs. H. B. Speight, H. B. Burnett, and A. Player, have also resigned. In advising the executive of his designation, Mr. Speight writes: "I am 'constrained to this course by the failure ! of the executive to honour the decision Sof its emergency committee granting a 1 trial match before the club games, after this decision had been communicated to the selector, and by the maintenance by the executive of an unreasonable and uncompromising attitude, notwithstanding the selector's explanation. I feel that the executive by this attitude is allowing a fancied affront to its dignity to interfere with the best interests of !the game. My regret at the action of ! the executive in this matter is the greater since I understand that it has resulted in Mr. Kent resigning his presidency of the association, wbich thus loses an oflicer who for a great many years has given of his best in the interests of hockey and of the association."
