EARL CURZON'S HOME.
LORD SCASSDALE'S PLANS. LONDON, June 9. Sidelights on the ambition of the Marquis Curzon, of Kedleston, to make Kedleston, his seat, one of the greatest of English palaces, have been revealed in the Chancery Court. ilarquis Curzon died on .March 20 last year. The Court had to decide the nominal question of whether the widow was entitled to the residual personal property absolutely, or whether it was intended for the restoration of Kedleston. Affidavits disclosed that Lord Curzon spent £70,000 on restoring the castle. He planned to make it worthy of entertaining Royalty in grand style. He had had a presentiment, the Countess told the Court, just before his death that his operation would prove fatal, and he hoped that she would realise his ambition. She was quite ready to, but in the meantime Lord Curzon's heir, Lord Scarsdale, had decided to live at Kedleston. She was sure that if her husband had anticipated such a development he would not have dreamed of completing the restoration on such an expensive scale. Tlie judge decided that the Countess was not bound to proceed with the restoration and could do what she liked with the residual personalty.
