STABLE AND TRACK GOSSIP.

(By WHALEBONE.) SEASON'S FIXTURES. June 18. 10—Napier Park R.C. Winter. June 23—Hawke's Bay Hunt Meeting. June 25, 26—Hawke's Bay J.C. Winter. July 31—Christchurch Hunt Annual. The hurdler Bright Light was dispatched to Sydney yesterday. J. Cathroleft for Sydney yesterday with Eh Timi and Scat.. Both are useful gallopers, and should be easy to place to advantage in Sydney. P. Conway is qualifying Llewellyn with the Pakuranga Hunt. The - big gelding will then be eligible to contest hunters' events in the South. At Ellerslie this morning two gallops were registered on Xo. 3 grass track. Zircon and a companion ran a circuit in 1.52 2-5, and Master Doon covered half » mile in 545. The two-year-old Subdivision, by Surveyor, was sent to Sydney yesterday by W. Patterson on the Ulimaroa. On arrival at Sydney Subdivision will go into R. O'Donnell's stable. " The North Island Goldmint, which is by Catmint from Hinerewa, has joined J. Lindsay's establishment at Riccarton. Lindsay has also taken in hand a three-year-old by Gay Lad from Athcldana. the dam of Rigel.

By "the TJlimaroa, which left for Sydney yesterday, Mr. E. W. Alison, jun., sent across Cawnporeand Quaker Oats. Also on the boat was the Ellerslie trainer, J. Williamson, but the latter did not take any horses across. F. D.' Jones has definitely decided to leave for Australia on July 2. His team will include Young Lochinvar, Limerick, Battlement and Reonui. There is a possibility of the last-named being sold during Jones' stay in the Commonwealth. There has been very little doing at Ellerslie since the Great Northern meeting. A few trainers are keeping their teams going in view of the Hawke's Bay or Wellington fixtures, but the contingent to go down from Auckland will -not be a big one. S. Waddell has a rising two-year-old brother to Anomaly by King Mark from Hoy under his charge at Greenmeadows. He has been named Rigoletto. Polydectes is the name claimed for a gelding by King Mark from Itamos in the.same stable. Itamos, which never raced, is a mare by Hymettus from Idee. An echo of the Conocrah case arose last week, when J. Russell, who was one of those disqualified in connection with the affair, applied for exemption under the Gaming Act. Russell asks for ex- ! emption because the disqualification imposed a serious hardship on him in con- : nection with his business as a taxi driver. Conocrah was supposed to be an American horse that was spirited' into this j country. He won at'Tahuna Park, but ' there was an atmosphere of suspicion, about him, and.sufficient evidence was gathered to disqualify him and those connected with him. "Sentinel," of the "Otago Daily Times," made Conocrah's acquaintance one evening at Forbury Park before the old racecourse was cut up. Whilst riding a hack oh the outside of the track in the dusk of the evening : a bob-tailed trotter shot past on the inside, and stepped along i n a manner suggesting that he was something out jof the ordinary. He was being worked I in the quiet of the evening, and his idenI tity did not become known to the writer 'until the horse appeared on the track at Tahuna Park, where the present Forbury [Park Club then held its meetings.

Evidently J. Buchanan intends taking I team to Trentham. This morning on tin sand Serang. Merry Damon, and Nassock sprinted five furlongs in company, finishing in the order written, in 1.5. On the same track J. Anderton sent Passionate, accompanied by Schorr,, five furlongs, the journey taking l.l'l. Swift and Sure, which represented Lord Actor in the English Derby last month, is a half-brother by Swynford to Mr. Lan Duncan's sire. Tea Tray. The mention of Lord Astor brings to mind that his luck in the big English classic has been of the irritating order, as during the last nine contests for the race he, upon five occasions, supplied the run-ner-up in Blink. Bucban. Craig an Erran, Tamar and St. Germans.

- AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB. A SATISFACTORY SEASON. At the annual meeting of members of the Avondale Jockey Club to bo held oa July G. the report to be presented dcaliug wltu the past season's working shows a very satisfactory position. The re-port states. -Tbe racing at both the spring ;in<i autumn meetings was as usual o£ 11 highclass character, the classic and weight-tol-age races attracting the very best class, wnile the handicap events were opnte-ti-a by fields which comprised the leading handicap performers iv tue Dbminlou. • In connection with the racing the committee express their thanks to the Auckland Racing Club iv allowing the club to hold tlieii meetings at Ellerslie during the formation of tbe new course at Avondale. As will be seen from tbe balance-sheet the club is in a very strong financial position. Despite the bad weather experienced in the spring both meetings showed a profit, and it will be noticed that the sum of £14.000 was distributed in stakes, which, is a slight increase on the previous year. , The Government taxes arc still very high, and during the year no less'a'sum than £1G,429 was paia Into the public account. . Rates and taxes have just about doubled, .due principally t» higher valuations aud the extra property purchased. Conference levies are still increasing, but it is hoped that the remit to the New Zealand Racing Conference by the Auckland Racing Club on this question will be carried, which will ease tbe position slightly. -' "The work on the new course Is almost completed, and should be ready for sowin; in the early spring. The track itself is a splendid one and considered by experts t" be equal to the best, and when the training tracks, which are now in course of formation, are finished, the whole will form an up-to-date racing area of which members may well be proud. The committee have at present under .consideration 'the building o L new stands," etc., and nothing should be wanting in this respect when the next meeting Is held at Avondale. "The membership of the club now stands at '243, including Tile-members, and at no part of its existence has the club had suca bright prospects. Messrs.,. Donald McLeod and A. Davies are the only nominees for the respective offices of president and vicepresident, and are therefore elected unopposed. For the'five vacancies on the committee the retiring members, Messrs. J. Archibald, A. Burt, .W. Fallon, J. E. Wells and Dr. Murphy have been nominated, ana as they do not exceed the number required no election will be necessary."

CANTERBURY NOTES. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The storms in the early part of the week did not last long, and the last three days have been ones of glorious sunshine with cold frosty nights to follow. The rains lert the tracks very heavy, and In consequence fast work- on anything but the steeplechase course... Is not being indulged in. The grass tracks at Riccarton, however, are fairly g6od. compared with those on some other courses, and the • weather has to be very bad to disallow •or hair to three-quarter pace work. With the winter now well upon us, all eyes are on the Jumpers In. this part, but when everything Is considered It must be admitted they are riot a ' brilliant lot. Charlatan stands head and shoulders above everything else so far as steeplechase form Is considered, but there may be a race in the ancient Tigerland, Blue Hall, and Whipcord. in the matter or hurdles we are perhaps worse off than with our steeplechasers, and perhaps Projector Is the best or a mighty bad lot, with Sayanora and Bonatic tlie most promising. The prospects. of any big- hurdle or steeplechase events coming Riccarton way Is very ' remote.. Pineta, the dam of Rapine, is reported to be in foal. to the imported stallion Paladin. Mr. J.. F. Buchanan has not had the best ol luck or late, Tor recently he lost by death a colt foal by Martian rrom imported Vernal; besides a colt loal by Paladin rrom Lady Kinloch. Radiac and Projector were sent over the hurdles this morning, and gave good displays. Kula and Prince Ferouz were also given a task over the jumps, the Tormer especially showing promise. R. Ellis has again taken Finora In hand, though by : no' stretch or imagination can she be rated as high class. Finora holds the Australasian record Tor seven rurlongs, 1.24. Tarleton, which has done a great amount or racing during the present season, has lert A. McCaulay's stable, and will be given easy work for a period.
