LIVE AND LET LIVE
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Of all of the Public Service (and other professions and trades in private employment can be included in the reference), school teaching has, without doubt, fared better for salary increases than any other, compared with a pre-war basis. That being the case, it is " a pity that some of the teachers cannot follow a policy of "live and let live." Small shopkeepers who sell school requisites in the vicinity of a school find it hard enough to make ends meet without having to meet the competition of school teachers. Indeed, it is most unfair that school teachers should be allowed to buy books, writing pads, etc.; to sell against the shopkeeper. There is no question of wrong prices at issue, as pretty well all school lines are at prices fixed by the trade and not the retailer.—l am, etc., FAIR PLAY.
