MINING NEWS.

MINE MANAGER'S REPORT. Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mines.—The mine manager reports that during the past few days an important development has taken place in this company's mine at Maratoto. The drive, which was carried along on the hangingwall of the Camoola lode for about ISOO feet, was turned eastward towards the footwall, and encountered a vein of rich sulphide ore, about 4ft wide. At No. 2 level, 200 ft above, rich ore is showing in the floor of the level, and the recent discovery is probably a continuation of this ore although the drive has not quite reached the point corresponding with the chute there. It has, therefore, been decided to extend the level another 100 ft southward on the voin of high grade ore. It may be mentioned that the Camoola lode is intact to the surface at an elevation of from 400 to 500 feet, and that good ore has been located at various points during the drive southward along the hangingwall of the lode. At a later stace crosscuts will be projected at various points to prove the width and value of the orde. Where it has been exposed the width of the lode has ranjred from 25 to 7ft feet, and at one point 12ft of ore, worth £0 10/ per ton. was carried along for a considerable distance. WAIHI RETURN.
