RESTORATION OF LICENSES

PREPARATIONS AT PAEROA.

REPAIRS AND FURNISHING OF

HOTELS.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, this day.

Whatever may be the effect of restoration of licenses in the Ohinemuri electorate, the fact remains that from an external point of view "new life" has set in for Paeroa. All that remains now is to wait until the Bench sits again this month, when all doubts as to whom and where the licenses are to be dealt out will be finally determined. In the meantime elaborate and extensive alterations are being effected to the hotels in Paeroa, which upwards of seventeen years'ago carried licenses to retail spirituous liquors. A large number of tradesmen of various callings are employed on the three houses, which, it is expected, will be allowed to throw open their doors on July 1 next, for the sale of liquor. These buildings, for the most part, since no-license was carried, have been allowed to fall back with regard to repairs. Now they are destined to follow a new and different course, quite a transformation scene is being enacted. The alterations being effected will render them not only miles ahead of what the buildings were when they were first erected, but will allow them to be compared favourably with most hotels in the Dominion from every point of view. ISo expense is being spared, and nothing is left wanting that is calculated to add to the comfort and convenience of the local and travelling public. Paeroa has had, since restoration of licenses, a wonderful cheap advertisement, which probably has done it a greater service than can be seen on the surface. Another aspect is that ample accommodation will be provided for travellers and those who have been seeking accommodation since the closing of one of t fle largest hotel boarding houses pending alterations. Responsible nnd experienced people will be placed in charge of the new houses, so it is only reasonable to assume that the hotels will be well conducted, and under such circumstances they should prove a distinct source ot convenience and comfort.
