DAVIS CUP CONTESTS.
BREATHLESS COMPETITION. LONGER INTERVALS ASKED. LONDON. June 16. The British Tennis Association has decided to support the action of the South African Association, which intends to put forward a motion in favour of Davis Cup contests being played at intervals longer than- a year. — (Sydney "Sun.")-
This action will probably be supported' also by Australia.. Under the present world competition the cup contest has become almost continuous, the preliminaries in Europe starting in May and the final taking place in September while America is the holder. Thus Australian challengers have to' leave home in May and, in the event of getting to the final they do not get back home till November, landing in the height of the local tennis season and having to start almost immediately defending their places in the team, which is chosen about February. Then in May the cup travelling starts all over again.
