FATAL ACCIDENT.

FELL FROM TRAMCAR. DEATH OF COUNTRX VISITOR. The list of fatal accidents was added to last evening when a middle-aged man, Mr. R. H. Dudding, of Ngatea, met his death through either falling from or jumping off a moving tramcar in the Manukau Road near Greenwood's Corner. Subsequently he was struck by a motor-bus and received head injuries, which resulted in his death half an hour later. The accident occurred shortly before ten o'clock at a, place where the tram track is perfectly straight. The tram was proceeding in the direction of Onehunga, and was about fifty yards the town side of Greenwod's Corner, when Mr. Dudding fell or jumped off. Until the car came to a standstill at the Greenwood's Corner stop the conductor was not aware of what had occurred. It was then* seen that an Onehunga motorbus, having come up from behind, had evidently struck the injured man, who was lying, unconscious, on the head. The driver of the bus stated that he was almost on top of Mr. Dudding before he saw him, and even then, if it had not been for' the fact that he was wearing a light suit, the bus would probably have passed over him. The brakes were applied in time to prevent this, but it is thought that the vehicle struck his head.

Mr. Dudding was taken to the residence of Dr. C. J. A. Griffin. The ambulance was sent for and the injured man conveyed to the Auckland Hospital, where he was admitted at 10.20. His death occurred about ten minutes later. Mr. Dudding was an uncle of Dr. R. G. Dudding, of Northcote.
