HAMILTON GUN CLUB'S CARNIVAL

THE BIG MATCH. AMUNDSEN AND ROFE THE WINNERS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Wednesday. The Hamilton Gun Club's annual carnival was continued on the club's grounds at Ruakura yesterday, the weather conditions were ideal with a good light and practically no wind to trouble the shooters. The main event was the £75 open handicap; this brought out 2L entrants and the shooting was very keen. Messrs. J. Amundsen (Matamata) and C. A. Rofe (Marton) brought down the possible of 21 birds and divided the first and second prizes, the former getting all his birds with the first barrel and Rofe had only one second barrel. Five others found 20 birds and four got 19, while six only missed three birds. Mr. W. H. Tissdall, of Wellington, who has shot all over the world, and a very old shot, said he had not seen such excellent shooting anywhere else; in fact, he thought that the shooting conditions would have to be more stringent so as to avoid so many ties and find out the best shot indeed. In nearly every match during the carnival ties were the order of the day. Mr. E. Thornton (Thames) shot very consistently, getting 62 birds out of a possible 63 in the three programme matches, and Frank Loughlin (Hamilton) got 61 birds. Mr. R. J. Reid (Hamilton) acted as referee throughout the carnival and gave satisfaction to all the competitors; a large portion of the success of -the gathering is due to the painstaking efforts of the club's secretary, Mr. Colin Speight. , The results were: — Open Handicap Match, 21 birds (21 rntrles). — J.
