PARTY OF ONE-HIMSELF.
INTERESTING SESSION COMING. SIR JOSEPH WARD'S FORECAST. "Sydney is going to be the greatest city in the Southern Pacific; greater than San Francisco will ever be/ said Sir Joseph Ward, M.P., ex-Prime Minister of New Zealand, in an interview with a Sydney pressman. Sir Joseph, with his daughter, had arrived by the Jlarama on a family visit. "J was here a year ago," he said, "and the first tiling which struck mc this time was the great development since then. "I went to have a look at the bridge construction this morning, and I will go over the city railway before I leave. ! Those two works will make a wonderful difference. You are making a fine city." As to politics, Sir Joseph said things had been very quiet in the Dominion since the elections. He could not speak with authority for any particular party, as he belonged now to a party of one— himself. When the Liberal party was beaten by the National party he carried on alone under the old name, and was elected. "But the first session, which commences on June 16, will bo interesting," he remarked. "And I will be back in time for the openin" , ." Speaking of the 44-hour settlement, he said that if most of thr industries decided to work the 44 hours in six days. New South Wales would then bo on the same footing as NW Zealand, where eifht hours' work on weck-davs and four hours' on Saturday is the general rule.
