MURDER IN W.A.

BANK CLERKS ATTACKED.

ROBBER IN TRAIN.

ONE SHOT FATAM.Y.

(From Oar Own Correspondent)' SYDNEY, June 4. John R. Greville, 22, a, bank clerk, was fatally shot by a thief in a train ; between Guild ford and Perth on Thursday, and Douglas Favas, accompanying Greville, was badly injured when .attacked by the robber armed with a ; revolver.

Favas' story to the police is that he and Greville were travelling from the bank at Maylands to the head office in Perth with £170 in a bag. A stranger, who had been inside th£ bank at Maylands several times during the past week, joined the train with them, and got into the same compartment. '' They placed the bag on the floor under the seat, and were engaged in a discussion with the stranger on aeronautics until they were near Perth. Aβ . they entered the suburbs the stranger suggested that Greville should look at something as they passed. Greville turned and put his head through the window. Favas looked in the same direction, and was astounded when he heard a shot and saw Greville reel ■ away from the window and fall to the floor. Looking round, Favas was juet in time to protect _himself as the stranger, with the revolver clubbed, attacked him. Favas was no match for the determinted assailant, and the latter soon clubbed him into unconsciousness. The train was jnst slowing down at the Perth station when the murderer picked up the bag. leapt through the window and jumped to the rails.

Favas recovered consciousness in time to see him disappear.

Bleeding from his wounds, he acquainted the railway officials as soon as the train stopped, and the police were informed. They were unable to obtain any trace of the stranger on Thursday night.

It ie thought that the attacker of the two- clerks, who had been at the bank at Maylands inquiring about the transfer of a bank account at Melbourne, had overheard arrangements being made for Greville and Favas to take the money into Perth.
