AT OSMIRIDTUM DIGGINGS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, June 4.
Adamsfield, in the centre of Tasmania's osmiridium Celil, described as a counterpart of the wild west towns of America of years ago, has provided another sensation, a hut being wrecked by the sudden explosion of a bomb under the floor on Thursday.
The explosion occurred beneath the fioor of Mrs. Shelton'S bedroom, under the head of the bed, to which she was about to retire. Mrs. Shelton and her husb&hd, who is a miner on the field, wefe entertaining some friends, who were playing cards in the dining room. The game had just concluded, and the guests were on the point of leaving, whsn the terrific explosion occurred, throwing them to the floor and wrecking the furniture and the rooms. The bomb, which was apparently home-made and contained ill a tin, smashed through the floor of Mrs. Sbelton's bedroom, and its effect Was felt all through the hut. All those in the house at the time were cut about the face and hands by flying debris, while pieces of the tin in which the explosive wa3 contained were spattered on the walls and ceilings.
Adamsfield is the home of about 500 miners from all parts of Tasmania and Australia, and life is carried on there under practically the same conditions as the American towns famed in the moving pictures. Miners all wear revolvers in their belts, and a vigilance committee exists in the town. So far the police have made no progress in their investigations into the bomb outrage.
