INTERESTING TO NEW ZEALAND.

HOSPITAL SYSTEM PRAISED.

VANCOUVER, May 18.

Sounding the praises of New Zealand, Dr. Malcolm T. McEachern, former Vancouver physician, who is now an associate director of the American College of Surgeons of Chicago, on arriving back in British Columbia from an extended trip to the countries of the South Seas, took the opportunity of expatiating on the methods pursued in New Zealand in regard to hospital management. When seen upon his arrival at Vancouver, British Columbia, shortly after disembarking from Australia and New Zealand, where he had spent five months in an inspection of the Government hospital system of various Australian States and New Zealand, the noted Canadian physician said: "In New Zealand there has been a definite hospital system during the past number of years which has been more on a nationalised type, inasmuch as the hospitals are supported entirely by taxation, and are more or less indirectly under the Government. The system, while excellent, has two or three major deficiencies which possibly might tend to break down if continued. "

"I am more convinced that the voluntary community hospital system, as we have throughout Canada, subsidised by the Government and the municipalities, is the safest and the most desirable to-dar.

"I was proud to see the Canadian Court at the South Seas Exhibition at Dunedin. It is recognised as one of the finest things at the exhibition. T>. G. Ross, the Canadian ex-commissioner, is right on the job, and Canada's interests are well looked after."
