THE BRITISH CHARACTER.
STEDFAST SCOTS FOLK.
MR. BALDWIN'S TRIBUTE.
SPIRIT Or THE PIONEERS
(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.)
(Received 2 p.m.)
LONDON", June 7.
"The Apostle of Peace" and "The Man of the Hour" were descriptions applied to Mr. Stanley Baldwin, Prime Minister, by the Moderator of the Assembly of the Church of Scotland and the Lord Provost respectively, on the occasion of the visit of the Prime Minister to Edinburgh to receive the Freedom of the City.
Acknowledging the Freedom of the City Mr. Baldwin paid a tribute to the Scots contribution to the British character, which was wholesome, purifying, strengthening, and safe. He regretted, that the post-war diminution of the spirit of adventure was slackening the flow of emigration to the Dominions, but he believed the tide had turned. (Renter.)
