HOW THE GAME GOES.

(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, June 7. The attendance was 10,000 when the trial match at Lord's was continued. Jupp and Larwood wene bowling very accurately, and neither Hobbs nor Hendren had the slightest inclination to hit. Hobbs attempted to leg hit Jnpp, but found a ring of in-fielders there. Larwood's clever work at mid-off ran out Hendren, whose partnership with Hobbs had yielded 44 in 55 minutes. Hobbs hit Hearne strongly, and Chapman reciprocated and made some nice cuts and chops before he was dismissed. Hobbs pulled Jupp to the. boundary, and Allen also got Jupp away, but the scoring was difficult against Larwood. Hobbs was cleverly caught by Hearne on the run. Judged by his usual high standard Hobbs was stodgy and never really comfortable against the fast bowlers, particularly Larwood. He hit sis fours. The board at this stage read 171 for six.

Allen and Kilner played brightly. Kjlner was brilliantly caught at point after a partnership which had added 64 runs. Allen, always sound, gave no chance.

Some big hitting marked the opening of The Rest's second strike. A quarter of an hour produced 21 runs. Sand- ; ham was confident and on-drove Tate and turned Kikier to the leg boundary. ■ Hallows wae straight-driving powerfully, especially against Macaulay. The bowling was changed frequently, but the batsmen were not perturbed and continued to make steady progress. When the total was 86, Hallows was dismissed after eighty minutes' solid play. Sanclham and Hearne thereafter quietly played out time. Details of the scores are:— ENGLAND. —First Innings.
