AUCKLAND LEADS THE WAY. A report upon building activity in the larger towns contained in the .Abstrac-fc of Statlsites for May shows that Auckland and her 16 suburbs, with a population of 172,328, granted 519 permits for buildings, valued at £235,955, dur- ' ing the month of April. Wellington, in--1 eluding Lower Hutt, Petone, Eastbourne and Johnsonville, with a population of 117.986, issued permits for 207 buildings, of a total value of £196,315. C'hristchurch, population 98,035, gave , permission to erect 144 buildings, valued at f05,259, and Dunedin, population 78,992, gave leave to put up 108 buildings, costing £60,855.
