NGAURUHOE.
PLUME OF WHITE SMOKE,
PARTY REACHES SUMMIT
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) RAETIHI, Monday. Exceedingly clear visibility of Ngauruhoe was obtained yesterday, when enormous volumes of white smoke were seen issuing forth. There being no wind, these hung about in the vicinity of the summit, and appeared at large clouds. The activity ceased during the afternoon.
A visitor from the National Park reports that a party succeeded in reaching the summit of Ngauruhoe on Friday. The top of the mountain was covered with thin ice, and they had to cut several hundred steps before they could reach the summit. An earth tremor which lasted at least twelve seconds occurred on Saturday night, at 9.50. The oscillation was Blight, but it was one of the longest experienced for some time.
