MEETINGS HELD IN CITY. BUSINESS MEN AGGRIEVED. (B.v Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. At a meeting of the Christchurch Chamber of Commerce last evening, Mr. A. D. Ford wrote stating that, owing to the exploitation of the betting public of the city by the country racing clubs holding meetings at Riccarton, retail firms found it increasingly difficult to secure the payment of accounts. All thi* was seriously interfering with the running of business.

Another member said that there should be a protest about the number of race days. "I think it is a disgrace," he said, "that in a country like this so much is spent on racing. A strong protest should go forward." Mr. P. R. Climie said that the usual excuse for holding country meetings at Riccarton was the poverty of their funds and that their racing tracks were out of order. The matter was referred to the Retail Traders' Conference.
