BUILDING IN AUCKLAND.

■ THE PERMITS FOR MAT. A BIG DECREASE SHOWN. Last month was a lean one as far as building is concerned for Auckland, and when compared with the same month oi -last year a big decrease is shown. That may be accounted for by the fact that the contracts let last month were exceedingly small, the largest not exceeding £3000. A total of 229 permits were issued by the Auckland City Council, and of those 43 were for dwellings. The amount involved in these figures was £57,082. The largest contract was that of a dwell.ingin Shelly Beach Eoad for £2950, while -the -next highest was one of £2000 for a service station in Park Road. As against these figures, 253 permits . were issued for the same month of 1925/ of which 48 were for dwellings. The' sum involved was £120,364, representing £63,282 more than the sum expended this year. Some large contracts were sMated5 Mated last year, and these included one tor £19,200 alterations to an hotel, £15,500 for a store in St. George's Bay Road, and £8300 alterations to a house.
