» 1 PROGRESS OF APPEAL. There was a busy scene at t_*l Y.W.C.A. hall at lunch time yesterday, when nearly 100 women workers met to report on their canvass of the city. __§ workers are divided into seven teams, the captains being Mesdames Rudd, H_- t Garrard, Cooke, Todd-Smith, Webster and Barr, and the Misses GoodfeHowj Rishworth and Watts. The Kar__g_» hape Road Business Men's Association is also providing a special team, and j another team of business men hag under* taken some of the work. Yesterday there was a keen interest in the work of each team, the highest amount being reported by Mrs. Barr. A number of business men showed tljeif belief in the appeal by subscribing gen*; rous gifts as a nucleus of the fund. The Hon. George Fowlds, guest of honour for the day, spoke a few words of encouragement and commendation. He was convinced of the need for the appeal, and felt that there was no work of greater value to the city than t_» work of the Y.W.C.A. He wished it every success. Mrs. T. H. Macky reported on behalf of the girls' division, which had handed in cash to the amount of £1243. Further reports will be made at-regn-lar intervals.
