Some idea of the trend of land values in Scotland during the past thirty years may be gauged from the following information supplied to the Taranaki "Daily News" by a well-known South land resident. Thirty years a2O this gentleman was offered an estate in Ayrshire at the price of the mortgage, then held by the bank, namely £25.000. A little over a month ago the same property was offered at- public auction and the upset price was stated at £8000. The estate in question comprises 1500 acres of land and includes the fishing of about mile on one side of the river Stinchar. The improvements alone, judging, by the description in th*. advertising columns of the "Ayr Advertiser." would eeem to be worth the £8000 upset price, yet they go in with 1500 acres of land. We have not yet witnessed such a case of depreciated hind values in Xew Zealand, and it is sincerely to be hoped that we never shall. Wool gabardines and coatings, 54----inchee wide, worth 0/11, selling at 4/11 yard at Ashley's bu»y corner, Karaonga-lia-pe Koad.—(Ad.) _'
