m • DISPOSAL OF MONEYS. AUCKLAND VETERANS' HOME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, thie day. The Hon. Downie Stewart presided at the annual meeting of the National War Fund Council, when reports in connection with payments for memorials were taken and approval given to the action of the executive in ensuring that moneys had been used for the purposes for which they were donated. It was reported that the various war funds under the High Commissioner had been settled, and the balance, £8542 5/9, remitted to the council. A memorandum was received from the Auckland Provincial War Relief Association regarding the desirability of making provision for the endowment and enlargement of the Veterans' Home and suggesting that a sum of £100,000 be provided for that purpose by patriotic societies. It was decided to hold the matter over until the views of deWatee to the Patriotic Conference to be held on June 8, can be obtained. Delegates from the New Zealand Red Cross Society and Order of St. John attended and expressed their views regarding the claim made in connection with the society's expenditure in hospitals and sanatoria on recreational purposes at one time carried on by the V.M.C.A. War Fund. It w-i * o make a payment of £4369 3/7 in full settlement, the society to accept responsibility for all future services. This the delegates accepted. The accumulated fund now stands at £115,562 1/7, and the trust funds at £6729 14/8.
