» A SUDDEN DISAPPEARANCE. WANGAXUI RIVER MYSTERY. (By Telegraph.—Special to •• Star.") ' WAXGAXUI, this day. In connection with a report by Mr. >light. of Gonville. that while lie was watching the river from Imlay early on Wednesday afternoon he noticed a man in a boat endeavouring to pull in a log iloatinii downstream, when boat and man disappeared, the police have now obtair.ed two other witnesses, who saw the man struggling with the log for an hour and a-half. He started from the bight near the Landguard Bluff, and suddenly both he and the boat disappeared. Search has been made, out no trace of man or boat lias been discovered, and the affair is shrouded in mystery, as no one has so far wen reported a-s missing. The theory is that the occupant of the boat may have been a Maori, and that it may be a few days before his friends will miss him. The river was in f.cod at the time.
