THE BUSY PICKPOCKET.
j (To the Editor.) Sir, —A tip to the wise when rolling the wooden balls in the Queen Street ; booths —keep a sharp nether eye on your ' pockets. I happened to stroll in on Friday with 12/ and an optimistic conviction that my venture would be profitable. Apparently it was as with the expenditure of 2/6 I secured two boxes of good fresh chocolates and then decided to retire with the profit, but on checking the change found I had not got a red cent. I was hemmed in at the sides and at the back by boys in grey caps, short trousers and spotted complexious, ranging from Iβ to 19, so was unable to feel the nimble touch of the light-fin- j gered gentry owing to the pressure. On j the Continent a sijrnrfioent sign is hung • in all booths, etc., "Beware of the pick- ; pocket." There is room for this sign on ! the walls of these booths, so, booth pro- \ prietors, take my tip and shove up those | signs in fairness to the unsuspecting I public—l am, etc., ONCE BIT.
