(By Telegraph.—Press Aseoetation.) WELLINGTON, this day. Preliminary figures in connection with the Maori census show that there has been an increase in the native population of over two thousand. The present figures include half-castes, while those for 1921 excluded half-castes living as Europeans. The total native population is now 54,967, whereof 508 are in the South Island. I The figures for 1921 were, respectively, j 52,751 and 482.
