MOTORING MATTERS.
MEETING OF A.A.A. BUSES AXD SAFETY ZOXES. I At la6t night's meeting of the council lof the Auckland Automobile Association, the president, Mr. J. A. Warnock, presided. | The recent conference between the as- ■ sociation and members of the Omnibus i Owners and Drivers' Association was i reported on by the secretary. In reply to the complaints about buses blocking I the entrances to safety zone 3, the ! drivers said that this "was frequently due to the fact that motor cars were parked in places which compelled them to draw up near the kerb close to . safety zones. However, the conference , decided to discuss the matter with the j chief city traffic inspector. When the question of excessive speeding by buses was raised, the owners' representatives stated that notices had been issued to all drivers informing , them that if they exceeded 25 miles per hour they would be dismissed. Already I one driver had been dismissed for exceeding this limit. ! A request was received from the Matamata County Council asking the association to discourage motorists from deviating from the main roads and mentioning that excessive use of the local roads would result in ruining them for the settlers. Several members' expressed the opinion that it would be i unreasonable to discourage motorists . from visiting scenic resorts. Tn an\' j case the roads would not be in the best condition during the winter. That fact alone would cause traffic to go by the main roa<t. | In reply to the Ohinemuri County Council's letter asking for. advice regarding an amendment to the present sneed limit of 10 miles per hour in the Karangahake Gorge, the association suggested that 20 miles an hour, with a limit of 10 miles an hour at certain portions of the road, the same as prej vailed in the Manawatu Gorge, should be fixed.
