» A PROHIBITED WOMAN. BRIBE OFFERED TO POLICE. I CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Louisa Beale, a prohibited person, offered two constables £10 each as a bribe when they found liquor in her house. "I look upon the bribe as more or less an ide vapouring." said the magistrate, Mr. H. Y. W'lidowson, when accused j was charged. "She is fined £5 and costs, !or one month's imprisonment, for offcr- | ing to give a bribe to induce the police ilo forego their duty. For obtaining J liquor while prohibited she is fined £2 and costs, or 14 days' imprisonment. The I sentences are cumulative."'
